Evergreen School District (ESD) strives to promote academic achievement while also supporting the social and emotional needs of its students. Our schools have counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists along with rotating social work interns and marriage and family therapy trainees to support students through different types of challenges and opportunities.

Jennifer Walczak, MaE, PPS, LeyVa School Counselor
Mrs. Walczak's job is to ensure student success. She does this by providing services in the areas of academic support, social/emotional development, and college and career preparation. These services include: classroom lessons, small group counseling, referrals to outside agencies, connecting families to resources, consultation services, individual counseling, and planning special events and campaigns. Mrs. Walczak's vision is that every student leave LeyVa happy, healthy and prepared and confident for high school and for life.
Mrs. Walczak has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Masters in Education for School Counseling, and Pupil Personnel Services Credential.
Dawn Bonin, Psychologist
As a school psychologist Dawn works to support student learning and social emotional well-being by coordinating and attending Student Success Team, Section 504 Plan, and Individual Education Plan meetings. Through consultation and collaboration with parents and staff as well as direct student assessment, Dawn identifies support and services necessary to ensure student success at school. In addition Dawn works with support staff at the site and district level providing crisis intervention as well as individual and group counseling.
Cynthia Howard, ASW, PPSC, District School Social Worker
As a school social worker, Ms. Howard works to eliminate barriers to learning for students and families. She has been providing support for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children and their parents for over 25 years. At Evergreen Ms. Howard spends some of her time working with students individually and in groups. She also works to support students at risk of truancy, housing insecurity, and other challenges that can impact access to education. Ms. Howard works at multiple schools in the district so the best way to reach her is by email.
Ms. Howard has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Masters of Science in Civil Engineering, PhD in Civil Engineering, Masters of Social Work, and Credentials in Adult Education/Parent Education and Pupil Personnel Services.
Jenna Braga, MAE, MSW, PPSC, Quimby Oak School Counselor
Mrs. Braga supports Quimby students throughout their time in 7th and 8th grade. She provides various supports and services including: academic support, crisis and individual check-ins, college and career preparation, classroom lessons, small group counseling, school related event planning, providing resources and outside referrals to agencies and works alongside parents to help support their students. Mrs. Braga loves the Quimby community and is passionate about helping, listening to and preparing students for their futures.
Mrs. Braga has a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, Masters in Social Work, Masters in Education for School Counseling, and Pupil Personnel Services Credentials.
Beatriz Fernandez, M.A., PPS, Chaboya School Counselor
Ms. Fernandez is passionate about motivating students to reach their full potential and eliminating mental barriers. She works closely with students, parents and teachers. She is the first line of defense for anyone who may be experiencing a crisis or is simply in need of a check-in. She often collaborates with social workers and marriage and family therapist interns to ensure students are receiving the appropriate services. She supports students through wellness check-ins, academic support, small groups, referrals to outside agencies, social/emotional classroom lessons, college and career readiness and connecting families to resources. Ms. Fernandez has a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology with a double minor in Psychology and Child and Adolescent Development, Masters in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in School Counseling and Pupil Personnel Services Credentials.
Brittany Syu, MSW, PPSC, District Social Worker
Mrs. Syu has been with Evergreen School District since 2006. She has had the unique experience of not only being an elementary school teacher within the district for ten years, but has also served in her current role as a School Social Worker since 2015. As a School Social Worker, she is devoted to helping both support students’ social-emotional well-being and improve their academic achievement by helping reduce barriers to education. Rachel Flint, MSW, PPSC, District Social Worker
Through her work as a school social worker, Rachel aims to support students to be successful in school by addressing barriers that impact learning opportuni!es. Rachel supports students by focusing on their social-emo!onal wellbeing and academic achievement during individual or group mee!ngs. She also works with families on accessing community resources to ensure theirneeds are being met. Rachel believes in a collabora!ve approach with students and families to aid in accomplishing goals.
