Schools Reopening

Hear how Evergreen School District schools will reopen August 19 with online distance learning in the 2020-2021 school year.

Updated September 28, 2020

Since the Board of Trustee’s adoption of the 2020-21 school year plans, the State of California has revised its criteria for loosening and tightening restrictions on activities. Although Santa Clara County has moved into a red phase, which indicated that schools may reopen fully for in-person instruction ( based on the COVID-19 and Reopening In-Person Learning Framework for K-12 Schools) the state also indicates that local school officials will decide whether and when that will occur.

The Evergreen School District’s plan approved by the Evergreen Board of Trustees on July 15, 2020 directed staff to develop a hybrid learning model, which is tentatively scheduled to be implemented in January 2021, when students return from Winter Break, depending on whether Santa Clara County is still in a county risk level that allows for schools to be open. This plan has not changed, despite the state’s revised criteria. “We will re-evaluate our ability to safeguard schools and keep students and staff healthy and safe at the end of the third week in December so that, if we can change to the Hybrid Learning Model, we will do so in January, when students return from Winter break," said Dr. Flores, who also emphasized that parents will still be provided choices for learning model options for their children at that time.

Details regarding distance learning--including the Preschool-sixth grade schedules, platform, and student and staff expectations and requirements resources for parents, and mental, social, emotional wellness supports that will be provided for students and staff later this month. The plan will also follow the distance learning requirements outlined in SB98. More information can be found on the Distance Learning webpage.
