As shared in earlier communication, we are pleased to provide families a variety of instructional options to utilize during the COVID-19 school shutdown. These online resources are not teacher or school specific and support a range of subject areas, interests and ability. Completion is not required and materials should be considered supplemental. As such, they will not be graded or collected. Continuous learning family resources can be accessed at: https://sites.google.com/eesd.org/march2020/home

"Governor Newsom and State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond have announced that school campuses in California will not be able to reopen this school year. To be clear, the 2019-2020 school year has not ended. The remainder of the school year now transitions from in-person classroom instruction to instruction and support for students through distance learning options as described by California Department of Education (CDE)." Please read the letter from our County Superintendent of Schools along with all superintendents in Santa Clara County regarding school closure and distance learning. This month's book is Enemy Pie by Derek Munson. Enemy Pie emphasizes the importance of taking time to learn about people before passing judgment. The summer had seemed perfect until Jeremy Ross moved into the neighborhood, quickly becoming "enemy number one". Jeremy teased and made fun of the narrator and the narrator "took the bait." The narrator talked to his father, a caring adult in his life. His dad offered to help with a recipe for enemy pie! The chief ingredient in enemy pie was time spent in the company of "the enemy". Thanks to Dad's special recipe, Jeremy and the narrator discover they have a lot in common and become friends.

Tom Matsumoto is implementing a wonderful program for our students called Saturday Academy! Saturday Academy provides enrichment opportunities for all students while allowing our students to make-up missed days of attendance. Missed days of school also result in lost revenue to our schools. Saturday Academy allows us to recover lost learning as well as lost funding! Please click the link above for more information.
