Silver Oak Newsroom
Parents I wanted to let you know that our STEAM Lab will be up and running starting September 9th. This was done with the support of our parent community through your donations to the school along with support from the Evergreen School District.
Our STEAM Lab will be once again run by Mrs. Veronica Gardener, who has been leading our STEAM program over the last three years. Mrs. Gardener has worked exceptionally well with our teachers to bring to life the Next Generation Science Standards. Teachers teach lessons about a specific standards in their classrooms and Mrs. Gardener designs and leads hands on problem solving lessons that foster an environment of critical thinking, collaboration, communication and innovation with our students. Mrs. Gardener also incorporates robotics, coding, and engineering into lessons in the lab providing 21st century learning experiences.
Throughout the year students will be in the lab at least three times a month engaging in deeper learning experiences. To allow Mrs. Gardener to return to leading our STEAM Lab we needed to move Ms. Chavez into Mrs. Gardeners second grade classroom. Ms. Chavez has been with the Silver Oak community over the last three years, and taught second grade last year. Ms. Chavez was slated to teach kindergarten at our school this year though unfortunately we did not have enough students register to fill that class. Ms. Chavez started the first week of school working with Mrs. Gardener and meeting the students, to allow this transition to be a smooth one.
To back fill Ms. Chavez who has been covering for Ms. Ferguson who had to go out on medical leave will be Irene Alexander. We are very excited to have all the puzzle pieces fall into place and continue our strong commitment to 21st century learning in our school.
