Evergreen School District denounces prejudice, violence, and hate crimes toward any person or group of people. Recent news stories reflect an increase in violent crimes directed toward Asians and Asian Americans, including this week's shooting rampage near Atlanta. Anti-Asian rhetoric and violence are evidence of racism, which we cannot tolerate or accept. Bullying or harassment on our campuses and at our worksites is not tolerated by students or staff members. Student victims of bullying or harassment are encouraged to report these incidents to their teacher or school principal, and employees should report harassment and bullying to the Human Resources Department.
Evergreen School District's top priority is providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students and staff. We are committed to making sure that every student has equal access to our District's programs and enrichment activities. We want our students and staff to have a firm and deep sense of belonging. We believe that our work builds a strong foundation for the future of our students and community as a whole where each individual is truly valued and every person's potential can be realized and fulfilled.
This is a very challenging time for our community, especially for our Asian and Asian-American students, staff, and their families. We strongly urge our students to reach out to a trusted teacher or their school counselor to discuss their feelings and concerns, and to consult our Wellness Resources on our website. We also urge our staff to take advantage of the mental health resources provided by our Human Resources Department and our partner, Care Solace. Lastly, we plea to every member of our community to listen to and support one another.
