Parent Survey In-Person Learning
Posted 03/01/2021 08:21PM
March 1, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As the Evergreen School District is reviewing new CDC and state guidance regarding in-person learning, and updating our draft in-person learning plans, we would like to begin the process of determining which elementary school families are interested in having their children return to in-person learning, and which families are interested in having their children remain in distance learning for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year only. The link to this survey is available at the end of this email. The survey will close at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021. A survey needs to be completed by one parent for each child attending our schools.

While no decision has been made, we need to plan for different scenarios so that we can determine scheduling and staffing considerations. Final decisions regarding school schedules and the date to commence in-person learning is pending school Board action.

We know that many of our families are excited about the prospect of returning students to in-person learning, and as a district, we are, as well. With this excitement comes the need to provide clear information about what students will encounter when returning to campus, so that you can make an informed decision.

Learning Models: In the survey, you will have the option of choosing between two learning models for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year: Distance Learning Model and Hybrid Learning Model.

Distance Learning Model:
Our students are currently learning through the Distance Learning Model, which allows students to receive instruction remotely. Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous learning days and students will continue to have opportunities to engage in enrichment classes already in place.

Hybrid Learning Model:
In a Hybrid Learning Model, students receive part of their instruction in a classroom environment that allows for social distancing and adherence to health and safety guidelines. In this model, students attend school two days per week (Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday) and receive the remainder of instruction via Distance Learning. We will make every effort to keep students with their current assigned teacher. During the days students are not attending in person, they will receive live remote instruction from their classroom teacher via teleconferencing. Wednesdays will continue to be asynchronous learning days.

Health and Safety Measures: These are the Health and COVID-19 safety measures that must be followed by students and staff without exceptions while on campus:
  • Physical distancing of 6 feet
  • Hand hygiene: Frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizer
  • Requirement of face coverings except when eating or drinking
  • Cough/sneeze etiquette
  • Passive screening prior to arriving on campus
  • Stable student cohorts that do not mix
Additionally, our campus will remain closed to all visitors, and family access to offices on campus will be limited. We require that all of our families support and follow all health and safety measures.

Childcare: Please note that the district does not provide childcare. Childcare is provided at school sites by outside contractors, Champions and YMCA. Please contact these providers if you have any questions about childcare. For more information about Champions, which is based at Cedar Grove Elementary, visit For more information about the East Valley YMCA, which is based at Silver Oak Elementary, visit Phone number, (708) 715 6533

Scheduling Preferences: In regards to schedules, preferences will be considered, however, we cannot make any guarantees or promises.

Middle School: If you are also the parent/guardian of a middle school student, we are currently evaluating the CDC guidelines in terms of social distancing and cohort requirements as they apply to the middle school instructional model and how this applies to planning for in-person learning. We will be providing an update in the near future regarding our plans for the middle schools.

If you have more than one child at our school, please complete the survey for each child. Please complete the survey by Friday March 5, 2021 at noon. Please see survey links below.

Thank you, and more information will be shared in the coming weeks.
