Managing Stress & Anxiety During an Outbreak

A disease outbreak can be stressful enough, but add in adjusting to school/ work at home, social isolation and the lack of basic resources in stores and we have a recipe for stress and anxiety for almost everyone!People may be worried about themselves or loved ones getting sick and upset about missing cancelled events such as field trips, concerts or other celebrations.During these troubled times, it is important to remember we need to take steps to take care of ourselves and safely stay connected to others during this crisis.

The Center for Disease Control recommends doing these things to manage your anxiety and stress:

  • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
  • Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.
  • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
  • Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.

Students can stay connected to school in a variety of ways.

  • Stay up to date on the latest news from Evergreen District's webpage.
  • Follow school social media pages on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
  • Connect with teachers through email or Google Classroom.
  • Use technology to have virtual meet-ups with friends.
  • Get outside to get sunshine, fresh air and exercise (when safe to do so).
