CCI Recognizes Mr. Laraway and his Students
Posted 09/13/2018 02:50PM

A Lesson in Giving

Mr. Laraway's love of Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) comes from his love for his twin sister, Lee Ann, who had three Canine Companions service dogs throughout her life. In her memory, Mr. Laraway teaches each of his fifth grade classes at Silver Oak about people with disabilities and assistance dogs. In doing so, he also teaches his students about acceptance, inclusion and philanthropy. Then Bill's class teaches the rest of their school everything they've learned, to organize and motivate the entire student body to help raise funds for Canine Companions. Over the last five years, the amazing students of Silver Oak Elementary have raised over $35,000!

In 2017, they raised over $10,000 for DogFest Walk 'n Roll and were given the opportunity to name a puppy. They chose the name Sol, which stands for Silver Oak Laraway. CCI is grateful to Bill and his wonderful students for their efforts!

At the Evergreen School District Board meeting this week, Mr. Laraway, Sol, Silver Oak 6th grade students (Anya I., Hanh L., Aaditya B., Anshay C., Matthew C., Riyana R., Zainab S., Jaydon N., Tyler T., and Varsha B.) and representatives from CCI (Mary Caplice, Sue Guzman, and Donna Fuller) highlighted the success of Mr. Laraway's CCI projects at Silver Oak throughout the years. Congratulations Mr. Laraway and Silver Oak students for all you are doing for this incredible organization.
