One of the highlights of our year is the official ceremony to recognize the reclassification of those English learner students who have reached English proficiency.

On April 11 the Evergreen School District hosted the 12th annual Reclassification Celebration. 491 students were recognized for English proficiency, with four outstanding students recognized with Pathway awards, as their proud families looked on. Students from every Evergreen school crossed the stage to congratulations from Superintendent Kathy Gomez and Yee Wan, Director of Multicultural Education with the Santa Clara County Office of Education, who presented them with their medals of achievement.

"Students who become reclassified and are acknowledged as Pathway recipients have much to be proud," says Denise Williams, Director of Instruction with ESD and the coordinator of the Reclassification program. "They have persevered and have become proficient in English and/or a targeted primary language. They have taken rigorous assessments and mastered the designated content. What an exciting time for the students and their family. These students are truly exemplified in our district's Profile of a Learner."

The District has placed a major emphasis on ensuring students reach proficiency in English. Research shows that kids who speak two languages or more at home have higher test scores, are good at solving math problems and have more success in college. Evergreen teachers and administrators work hard with our students to achieve this important milestone.

Congratulations to all for this huge accomplishment.
