FAQ Summer School

When is Evergreen School District’s summer school registration?
Evergreen School District (ESD) is offering a free 15-day in-person summer school program from June 21 - July 15, 2021 at all school sites, transitional kindergarten through eighth grade, as an extension of the school year and focused on this school year’s academics. Registration for elementary schools took place the week of May 16 - 21. Registration for middle school was May 16 - 24.

Is summer school available to anyone living in the ESD enrollment area or only current ESD students?
ESD Summer School is only available to registered and current students of the district.

Are newly enrolled students to ESD able to register to attend summer school?
Summer school registration closed May 21 for elementary school and May 24 for middle school.

Who is teaching summer school?
Certificated teachers will be teaching your child in-person throughout the duration of the program at 12 elementary schools and three middle schools. Cadwallader will not be open in the summer due to a roofing project. Cadwallader students will be attending summer school in Montgomery.

Will classes have combined grades?
All classes will have about 20 students. 

How will class assignments be communicated?
Each summer school principal will send class assignments through a ParentSquare email. If you have not received your child’s class assignment, please contact the summer school principal assigned to your school (see principal assignments below).

What supplies does my child need?
All your child will need to do is attend, bring their school-issued devices, and have fun! All classroom materials will be provided by your child’s summer school teacher.

Will my child have access to an electronic device for use at school and home?
The distribution of devices will be dependent on your school site. Your child will have access to devices during class, but devices will remain in class and not be taken home.

What dates will summer school take place?
The 2021 summer school program will take place June 2 - July 15, Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

What is the daily schedule?
School will be Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m.. to 12 p.m. Students should arrive at school at 8:45 a.m. so to be prepared for school to start at 9 a.m. There will be a recess schedule, and we’ll share it once our student enrollment is finalized. Our students will eat their snack outside in a designated place, during recess.

What are the arrival and departure guidelines?
All adults entering the campus for in-person pick-up or drop-off must wear a face covering and stay outside of the designated areas where only students and staff are permitted.

Will my child need to wear a mask?
Yes, your child will need to wear a mask at school. While Governor Newsom’s office announced fully vaccinated people will not need to wear a mask indoors when the state fully reopens June 15, the mask mandate remains in effect indoors for K-12 schools and for other child care activities.

Will a Daily Health Screening be required?
Yes, a Daily Health Screening form needs to be completed by 8:45 a.m. each day by students and staff attending summer school. The health screening form can be found on ParentSquare. Instructions and a quicklink on how to use the Health Screening form are on the front of your school's website.

What other summer programs are being offered at ESD schools?
We are pleased to offer these enrichment classes this summer: Art (virtual), Speech & Debate (virtual), and Genius Academy. At this time, our Speech & Debate and Genius Academy are now full. Learn about other programs offered at ESD schools this summer on this webpage on our district website.
