Substituting at ESD

To become a substitute teacher at EESD, we require that you hold the following:

• a Bachelor's Degree, if you received your degree outside of the United States, your transcript must be evaluated by a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved agency. 
• a 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit (or Single/Multiple Subject Credential)

Information from Santa Clara County Office of Education

Here are the steps to obtain a Substitute Teacher Permit application: 

1. Fingerprint for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Livescan form  (form 41-LS) attached for your use. (you may also find this form at www.ctc.ca.gov)
2. Register at our SCCOE website: https://credentials.sccoe.org/credregistration.aspx
3. Go to www.ctc.ca.gov to create an educator account
4. Order an electronic transcript delivered to credentialservices@sccoe.org  PDF TRANSCRIPTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED OFFICIAL UNLESS THEY COME FROM THE UNIVERSITY TO OUR EMAIL ADDRESS, CREDENTIALSERVICES@SCCOE.ORG  If your schooling was completed outside of the U.S., we need to see your original evaluated transcript.
5. Email your CBEST results to credentialservices@sccoe.org  or send an email to request a basic skills evaluation. *optional 

When these steps are complete, SCCOE will submit your application to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing electronically. SCCOE will notify you of the recommendation and send you instructions to complete the process.

Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Links

Substitute Teachers must renew their credentials no later than the last day of the previous month to hold a valid permit/credential. If you have renewed your permit/credentials,  make sure that your credential/document is registered in the SCCOE/CTC database.

• Permits/Credentials should be renewed on-line at http://www.ctc.ca.gov (unless the permit/credential has already expired), 
• Once payment has been made, the credential will post on the CCTC website within 8-10 days.
• The issue date will be the date of payment. 
• Expired permits/credentials may need to be processed as paper applications; they possibly may not be renewed on-line because they need to have their credential backdated.
