Programs for English Learners
English Learner (EL) students receive English Language Development instruction until they are proficient in English. Such instruction targets the four domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.
Academic language in English is emphasized in all classrooms for all children. Our English Learners receive the same engaging and rigorous Common Core curriculum as their classmates - with additional language-base supports - ensuring they are ultimately successful in school and fluent in English.
All of our teachers use English Language Development (ELD) Standards and ELD Framework along with the Common Core Standards and the California State Standards to give English Learners what they need to develop language and reach grade-level standards.
Our teachers are skilled in using research-based instructional strategies, proven most effective in helping EL students understand lessons taught at their grade-level. Through these top quality instructional strategies, our EL’s continue to attain English fluency.
Program Options
To develop a rich and varied language foundation in English as soon as possible, ELs will receive a program of instruction based on the Common Core State Standards and will be offered varied program options. Learn more about these program options in our EL Master Plan.
