Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) model builds thematic units around the science and social studies standards, and emphasizes building background knowledge and comprehension around academic concepts through making connections to student experience, hands-on activities, realia, field trips, docent visits, and teaching strategies that brings teaching and learning to life. Our Kinder and first grade teachers are currently receiving training and collaborative time to best prepare for the new units of study. Kindergarten teachers are hard at work at a training Wednesday, Jan. 10, through Friday, January 12, 2018. First grade teachers participate in the training Jan 10 and 11, 2018. Students are being instructed by our highly qualified substitutes while teachers are at the training. If you are a parent of a child in one of these grade levels, you will see the impact of the hard work daily when your child explains to you what they are learning at school and also at the end of the unit at our Gallery Walks.

Parents of 6th graders - you will need to provide documentation that your child had a Tdap (whooping cough) booster shot given on or after 7 years old. Our goal is to have ALL 6th grade students provide this documentation before the end of May. If you haven't done so already, check your child's immunization record or call your physician to find out when they last had a Tdap vaccination. Once the shot is completed, bring in the immunization record to the school office so we can document that the requirement has been completed. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL SUMMER TO COMPLETE THIS REQUIREMENT.

With parent permission, we now allow students in 4th through 6th grade to ride their bikes to school. In addition to the California Highway Patrol bicycle regulations, bikes must be walked, not ridden, on school grounds. Likewise, this permission slip must be on file in the office for your child to ride their bike to school. There are a limited number of available bike racks. They will be assigned first come, first served. Click on the title to obtain the permission slip.

This is especially important because at the start of the 2017-18 school year, you will only be able to find out your children's new class assignments by logging on to your Parent Portal.
