Residency Verification

At the January 17, 2008 Evergreen School District Board of Trustees meeting, Assistant County Counsel, Lori Pegg, presented guidelines as to what documents school districts may use to prove a student’s residency. She reviewed the current practice of Evergreen School District and stated that it complied with the requirements of the law. She cautioned the District to not mandate specific documents that could be used to identify a student’s status as a citizen but rather to offer a choice of documents from which parents may choose. Consequently, the District is in the process of updating and clarifying its practices so that there is consistent implementation among school sites. A registration protocol for impacted schools (Carolyn A. Clark and Tom Matsumoto) will be presented to the Board of Trustees in February. It will be implemented beginning in March when registration opens for new kindergarten students. It is anticipated that all current students at Clark and Matsumoto will be required to reregister prior to school opening in August, 2008.

Information regarding the re-registration process will be shared with the community via the school newsletter and the District website as it becomes available.
