Snack
Procedures
Due to food allergies this year, please do not send any snack/food item
that contains NUTS. Your cooperation is GREATLY appreciated!
We encourage a healthy
eating environment here at Matsumoto which
is in compliance with the Evergreen School District Child Nutrition
Services (CNS) and California State nutritional guidelines.
This helps to ensure that children will grow up with a sound knowledge
of good nutrition and diet.
Snack time is part of every
morning and afternoon session.
Parents and caregivers are asked to provide only healthy food for the
following reasons:
* To provide children with
important vitamins and minerals
* To encourage a taste for healthy
foods and to promote healthy eating habits
* To avoid children pressuring the
purchases of less healthy foods they may see other children eating
Please send in snack for your
child daily. We are asking you to
provide a "snack bag" which contains a healthy food item. This
food item must not require refrigeration or heating. Snack foods
such as: crackers, carrots, fruit, string cheese, or other healthy
finger foods are highly encouraged. Please be sure that your
child's name is clearly marked on the bag.
We are requesting that water
be the only liquid sent to school.
The reason for this is two fold. There is a tremendous ant problem here
at Matsumoto and we'd like to avoid them if at all possible.
Secondly, most other drinks are high in sugar and do not fall within
the nutritional guidelines. Please make sure your child's water bottle
is marked with their name.
Because of State Nutritional
guidelines, birthday snacks will now be
provided by CNS. The birthday snacks that they offer all fall
within mandated guidelines for fat and sugar content. We will
celebrate your child's birthday as close to the actual day as
possible. Due to special occasions and summer birthdays, we may
have to celebrate your child's birthday on another day. If your
child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate their "half" birthday.
Please feel free to contact us
if you have any questions. Thank
you for supporting us by ensuring your child comes to Kindergarten with
a healthy and nutritious snack.
