Geography

Chaboya incorporates basic geographic skills within the content of the societies and civilizations studied. Thus, students learn about desert terrain when studying about Islam , the variety of geographic features within Asia and Africa and how they impacted the civilizations that developed. Students learn the importance of rivers on trade and commerce, what types of economies the land can sustain, and ecological reasons affecting the rise and fall of different societies. Finally, in 8th grade, students demonstrate the ability to articulate what part geography played in the development of the thirteen original colonies and subsequent US nation.

United States

The  timeline for United States History begins with European Exploration and the first contacts with the Native American societies.  Next, it proceeds to an analysis of the Spanish, French, and English Colonies.  Students are required to compare and contrast New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies.  Events preceding and following the Declaration of Independence are covered.  Strengths and weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation, writing of the Constitution, and development of the new nation are chronicled.  Finally, Westward Expansion, the economy of the North and South, impact of slavery on the nation, the Civil War, and Reconstruction are studied in detail.
