    Standards of Behavior

We believe that all students can behave appropriately, therefore, we do expect appropriate, safe behavior at all times. Rules and policies, based on California Law, were adopted to ensure the safety of the students, as well as a high quality education. It is important that students be responsible for their own actions and learn that they have control over their own lives. There is a need to learn to accept logical consequences for their actions, evaluate their behavior, and find positive alternatives for their inappropriate actions. Students must respect the rights of others to learn, and teachers to instruct in a safe and positive environment.

To help the students learn what is expected of them here at Cedar Grove, they will be given a set of school rules and tested on them at several times a year.

    Gender Equity

Cedar Grove provides equal opportunity and access to all programs and benefits to all students and employees, regardless of gender. All students are guaranteed equal access to core curricular activities, as well as extended day and academic and behavior incentive programs. Students and parents receive information addressing these issues during a summer mailing. New students receive the information upon enrollment. Sexual Harassment, Non-Discrimination and Uniform Complaint Procedure policies and procedures are provided for all staff during district and site inservices and are available to parents upon request. Professional Development activities are offered which include strategies for identifying and eliminating gender and racial bias.

    Work Folders

Student work folders will come home every Friday. PLEASE WATCH FOR THESE! Enclosed will be the school newsletter, 'Cougar Tales', notices of upcoming events, a sampling of student work, and news from the classroom. These folders are signed each week and returned to school. The cost of replacement for a lost folder is $1.00.

    Homework

The object of homework is to assist and improve a student's learning. Please see the Homework page in our Policies section.

    Concerns

If you have a question about your child's class, instruction, discipline or justwish clarification, please contact your child's teacher first. He or she is most likely to be acquainted with the situation and possible ways of handling it. Conferences are scheduled in November. All Cedar Grove teachers are committed to excellent parent-teacher communication and are only a phone call away.

    Community

Cedar Grove boasts an active parent support group. This group directly influences the school through the School Site Council (SSC) and the Parent Teachers Association (PTA). Both these group meet regularly and parent attendance at the meetings is encouraged. Please watch the newsletter for meeting dates.
